Palantir Acquires API Specialist Kimono Labs

Palantir Technologies Inc. has acquired API maker Kimono Labs, providing its team with unmatched support and additional resources to deal with new projects and data challenges. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.The deal adds additional resources and expertise to deal with new projects and data challenges.

The deal will also enhance Palantir’s ability to collect data for analysis and data sets that reside in silos.Following the deal, Kimono Labs announced that it will no longer offer support for its products and will be shot down its service on February 29, 2016, although users will have until March 31 to import their APIs.

Founded in 2014 by Pratap Ranade and Ryan Rowe, Kimono Labs is a Y Combinator-backed “scraping as a service” platform that helps developers grabs information from sites without having to write down their own code. The startup claims that it currently has more than 125,000 developers, data scientists and businesses on its platform.

Before its acquisition, Kimono Labs has secured $5 million in funding from Y Combinator, CrunchFund, High Line Venture Partners, Cowboy Ventures, Founders Fund, and numerous angel investors. 

Founded in 2004 and based in Palo Alto, California, Palantir Technologies Inc. is a privately-held software and services company, specializing in data analysis. The company offers a suite of software applications for integrating, visualizing and analyzing information. 

Palantir has two major software products: Palantir Gotham, which is used by counter-terrorism analysts at offices in the United States Intelligence Community, United States Department of Defense, fraud investigators at Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, and cyber analyst at Information Warfare Monitor; and Palantir Metropolis, which is used by hedge funds, banks, and financial services firms.
